What does the "air puff" test check?
The test known as the "air puff test" is a common term for non-contact tonometry. Tonometry is an important measurement in the assessment for an eye condition called 'glaucoma'. Tonometry: the measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) by determining the amount of force it takes to displace a certain amount of corneal tissue. Tonometry is performed several different ways, but most remember the "air puff". Dr. Dold DOES measure patients' IOP, but the "air puff" is NOT her preferred method of tonometry. NO "air puff" at Wimmer Opticians!!!!
