When will my vision be normal again after cataract surgery?
Recovery from cataract surgery is relatively brief. Depending on the surgery, the recovery period varies from a few days to a month. Initial visual results are variable depending on the degree of corneal swelling and inflammation in the eye after surgery. Within a month, the swelling and inflammation expected after surgery have typically fully resolved. Typically, little pain is experienced with cataract surgery and it is common to use eye drops for approximately one month post-operatively. Certain care and restrictions for daily activities are recommended during the post-operative period; follow Dr. Dolds recommendations for returning to every day activities.
The yellowish/brown tint caused by a cataract acts like a filter. That filter is removed with cataract surgery and is replaced with an intraocular lens, which is clear. Therefore, after your cataract surgery, colors will appear very bright and whites will be whiter. Wearing sunglasses will increase your comfort after cataract surgery. It may take a few months to become fully adjusted to your new vision.
