My doctor says I have a cataract, but he wants to wait a while before removing it. Why?
Cataracts start small and develop slowly in most cases. Surgery isn't necessary until the cataract begins to interfere with your vision, making it unsafe to drive or causing difficulty in daily activities. More frequent eye exams may be recommended once a cataract is detected by your doctor. The progression of the cataract can then be monitored and recommendations for intervention with surgery will be timely.
